The European Union has launched new initiatives to make batteries more recyclable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly. Under the updated Ecodesign and Sustainable Products Regulation, manufacturers are required to design products that last longer, can be more easily repaired, and allow batteries to be removed and recycled responsibly.

At the same time, Europe’s “Battery Booster” program is investing €180 million to expand recycling facilities and encourage the use of recovered materials in new batteries. The goal is to reduce reliance on raw mining, cut carbon emissions, and build a more transparent and circular battery supply chain.
