The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has raised concerns over a proposed rule that would require all table saws to be equipped with patented finger-detecting technology. According to the FTC, the mandate could create a market monopoly and significantly increase tool costs, with estimates suggesting hundreds of dollars added per saw.

As a result of these concerns, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) decided to withdraw the proposed rule. The decision is seen as a move to protect competition in the power tool market while still encouraging innovation in user safety features.
