Summer brings rapid plant growth, but also challenges like heat stress, fast weed spread, and higher water evaporation. Here’s a straightforward guide to help you manage your yard effectively and safely during hot weather.
Heat Safety Guidelines
• Schedule yard work in the early morning or late evening; avoid peak heat hours (12 PM–4 PM)
• Keep tools and batteries out of direct sunlight; store them in a cool, shaded place
• Never charge a hot battery — allow it to fully cool before charging to prevent damage or risk
Lawn & Plant Maintenance
• Lawn mowing: Every 7–10 days is ideal; avoid cutting too short to reduce water loss
• Shrub trimming: Remove dead or crowded branches to improve airflow and reduce pests
• Watering: Best done in the early morning or late evening to maximize soil absorption and avoid “boiling” roots
• Mulch application: Use wood chips, bark, or straw to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds
Additional Tips
• Clean and inspect tools regularly
• Store batteries separately from tools when not in use
• For long-term storage, charge batteries to around 50% and keep them in a dry, cool place
