As of January 1, 2026, Portland will start phasing out the use of gas-powered leaf blowers across the city.

📅 What to expect
• In 2026 and 2027, gas blowers will only be allowed during October–December.
• Beginning January 1, 2028, gas leaf blowers will be banned year-round — for both public and private properties.

✅ Why this matters (for health & environment)
• Gas blowers emit significant air pollution — one hour of operation produces roughly as much pollution as driving a mid-size car about 1,100 miles.
• They produce loud low-frequency noise, which can cause hearing damage, stress, and negatively impact health — especially for workers and neighbors.
• By switching to electric or battery-powered alternatives, Portland aims to reduce noise and air pollution and improve quality of life for residents and landscaping workers alike.

📢 What you should know / do
• If you own property in Portland — private or commercial — you’ll need to plan ahead: after 2026-27 transitional period, gas blowers won’t be allowed.
• Electric / battery-powered leaf blowers remain permitted at all times.
• The city/county will offer support for small landscaping businesses affected by this change to help them transition.

Portland’s move is a clear signal: cleaner air, quieter neighborhoods, and fairer working conditions for landscaping crews. If you care about environmental health, this is a step many other US cities may soon follow. 🌎🍃
